 <note><![CDATA[ABSTRACT

This thesis is entitled “A STUDY ON GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP KI HAJAR DEWANTORO KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2014/2015. It was conducted to answer the following questions: (1). What are the types of grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMP Ki Hajar Dewantoro Kupang in writing narrative text? (2). What are the most frequent grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of  SMP Ki Hajar Dewantoro Kupang in writing narrative text? The objectives of the study: (1). To find out the types of grammatical errors that occur in writing the narrative text of the eighth grade students of SMP Ki Hajar Dewantoro Kupang in the school year 2014/2015. (2). To find out the most frequent grammatical errors committed by the eighth grade students of SMP Ki Hajar Dewantoro Kupang in the school year 2014/2015 in writing narrative text. The subjects of this study were 14 students in the eighth grade students of SMP Ki Hajar Dewantoro Kupang in doing their writing. In getting the data, the writer used descriptive Method. This method aims at describing the errors made by the students. The writer gave topics and the students chose one of them to construct into a good narrative text. The result of this study are: (1). The types of grammatical errors made by the students in writing narrative text were omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. (2) The number of errors in grammar was 124. The frequency of errors in grammar was 48 (38,70%) omission, 22 (17,74%) addition, 49 (39,51%) misformation and 5 (4,03%) misordering. The most common grammatical errors in writing narrative text commited by the students is misformation with 38 sentences (40,86%). Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer suggests: (1). The teacher should teach the students how to write a good text especially in writing narrative text and give the students chance to practice, so the students can focus in grammar especially in using tenses, pluralization, and possesive markers. (2). The eighth grade students of SMP Ki Hajar Dewantoro Kupang should learn how to write a good text and focus on grammar especially in using simple past tense.
