 <note><![CDATA[ABSTRACT

	This study is entitled: “THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING ROLE GAME IN TEACHING THE EXPRESSIONS OF SHOWING AMAZEMENT TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP ANGKASA KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2014/2015”  The study is conducted to answer the following questions: 1) Is using role game effective to improve the speaking skill of showing amazement of  eighth grade students of SMP Angkasa Kupang in the school year 2014/2015? 2) What is the students level of speaking ability in showing amazement after being taught using role game? The objectives of the study are as follows: 1) To find out  the effectiveness of role game technique in improving the students speaking skills of grade eighth students of SMP Angkasa Kupang 2) To find out the students level of speaking in showing amazement after being taught using role game in teaching the expression of showing amazement at the eighth students of SMP Angkasa Kupang. This study is limited in three aspects of speaking as proposed by Richards (2008) in terms of Language use, Performance and Fluency. In obtaining the data, the writer applied the Role games. The subject of the study is class VIIIB that consists of 20 students. The instrument used in this study was pre test, post test 1, post test 2. Based on the data analysis, the writer concludes that 1) Role Games is effective in teaching speaking for the eighth grade Students of SMP Angkasa Kupang 2) There are significant improvement in the results of teaching speaking by using games and without games they are follows. The students’ level of speaking in the pre-test is below average (2. 56) while in the post-test 1 the level is above avarage (4. 41) and in the post test 2 the level is  very good (5. 03). The pre-test was given before they were taught using Role games and the post-test was given after they were taught by using Role games. Based on the result of the study the writer would like to propose some suggestions as follows: 1) The English teacher should pay attention to students’ needs and characteristic by giving them games to make them easier to learn English particularly speaking skill. 2) The English teacher should be more serious in helping the students to develop their speaking skills in some aspects such as Language use, performance and Fluency. 3) The eighth grade students of SMP Angkasa Kupang should be learn more about how to speak correctly based on the aspect of speaking such as grammar, vocabulary, performance, especially in using the expressions of showing amazement.
