AN ANALYSIS OF THE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THE PROCEDURE TEXT WRITTEN BY THE NINTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP KRISTEN MERCUSUARrnKUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2012/2013



ABSTRACTrnThis study entitled “AN ANALYSIS OF THE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS INrnTHE PROCEDURE TEXT WRITTEN BY THE NINTH GRADE STUDENTSrnOF SMP KRISTEN MERCUSUAR KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEARrn2012/2013”. It aims to answer the following questions: (1) What kinds of errorsrnare encountered by the ninth grade students of SMP Kristen Mercusuar Kupang inrnwriting procedure text? (2)What are the most frequently committed errors madernby the ninth grade students of SMP Kristen Mercusuar Kupang in writingrnprocedure text? The objectives of the study are: (1) To describe and explain kindsrnof errors that are encountered by the third year students of SMP KristenrnMercusuar Kupang in writing procedure text. (2) To identify and describe thernmost frequently committed errors made by the ninth students of SMP KristenrnMercusuar Kupang in writing procedure text. In order to solve these problems, thernwriter used a descriptive method. This method was used because the aims of thernstudy were to describe the kinds of error that encountered by the students inrnwriting the procedure text and the most frequently error which occur there. Thernresult of the study shows that the grammatical errors that made by the students inrnconstructing procedure text is 55 (100%). The writer found all the types of errors,rnnamely Omission 19 (34%), Addition 5 (9%), Misformation 27 (48%) andrnMisordering 5 (9%). The most frequently grammatical error encountered by thernstudents in writing procedure text is Misformation 27 times (48%). Followed byrnOmission 19 (34%), Misordering 5 (9%) and Addition 5 (9%). Based on thatrnresult, the writer would like to suggest that the students should masterrngrammatical aspects in producing procedure text when they want to be able torncommunicate in writing. Realizing that poor grammar in writing can violate therncontent of the writing, the writer suggests that it should be better for Englishrnteacher to teach and really pay attention to the grammatical aspects of writing.
