An analysis of translation text from Indonesia language into english done by the eighth grade student of SMPN 1 Ruteng in the school year 2012/2013



ABSTRACTrnThis study is entitled “An Analysis of Translation Text From Indonesian Language Into English Done by the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1 Ruteng In The School Year 2012/2013 “. This study was conducted to answer the questions: (1) Are the translations of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Ruteng good or bad ?, and (2) What are the difficulties that might be faced by the eighth grade students in translating text from Indonesian language to English ? The objective of the study was aimed: (1) To classify the student’s translation into good or bad, and (2) To find out the difficulties that might be faced by the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ruteng in translating text from Indonesian language into English. To answer those questions above, the writer applied descriptive method because it is the method that concern with ascertaining the condition which prevails in a group of cases chosen for study and essentially a method of qualitative description of the general characteristic of the group. The subject of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Ruteng. There were twenty students as the subject of the study. In collecting data, the writer used the translation task. The task is three paragraph reading text consist of thirteen sentences written in Indonesian. The results of the study shows that from thirteen Indonesian sentences, only four of them translated with proper word choice and correct grammar and the content is kept as original by only eleven students. The original meaning of the text is not transferred because many un-proper word choices and grammatical sentences. It means the students still lack of specific vocabulary and difficult in constructing the grammatical sentences. Based on the result of the research, some suggestion given by the writer as a follows: (1) English teacher of SMPN 1 Langke Rembong is expected to pay the attention to the part of grammar, content, and vocabulary and give some exercises for the students in translating a text from Indonesian into English. (2) Regarding vocabulary, the students are expected to memorize English words which are related to the study and vocabulary or different fields.
