 <note><![CDATA[ABSTRACTrnThis study is entitled: A CORRELATIVE STUDY BETWEENrnTHE MASTERY OF VOCABULARY AND READING COMPREHENSION OF THErnELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 2 KUPANG IN THE SCHOOLrnYEAR 2012 / 2013.rnThis study was conducted in order to answer the following hypothesis: (1). Ho: there is norncorrelation between the mastery of vocabulary and reading comprehension. (2). H1: there is arncorrelation between the mastery of vocabulary and reading comprehension. The objectives ofrnthis study are: (1) To find out whether vocabulary mastery can influence students readingrncomprehension or not. (2) To find out the student‟s mastery level of vocabulary and readingrncomprehension. To support this study, the writer used several books that are related to the study.rnThe correlative method was used in this study. The respondents of this study were 21 students,rnwhile the instrument used in gathering the data was test. The test consisted of 28 test items,rndivided into two parts: 20 test items constructed for vocabulary and 8 test items constructed forrnreading comprehension.rnThe result of data analysis indicated that the vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension ofrnthe eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang has a correlation. It is proved by theirrnrange of the correlation of this study that is low correlation, and the value is 0.3446. It meansrnthat Ho is rejected while H1 is accepted. Based on the data analysis, the writer can conclude thatrnthere is a correlation between the mastery of vocabulary and reading comprehension and it wasrnfound that the students‟ mastery range of vocabulary and reading comprehension is lowrncorrelation (0.3446). Some suggestions are offered to the English teacher and the students of thernresearched school, are as follows: (1) for the teacher: the teacher should give more explanationrnand exercise on vocabulary and reading comprehension to the students, especially the dictionrn(the use of proper word on proper context). The teacher should give the reading text to thernstudents and give more explanation to students to understand the reading text given withoutrnseeing the vocabulary in the dictionary and let the students try to find the meaning from therncontext. The students still need more attention on pronouns also especially on the proper use ofrnpossessive adjective and possessive pronoun. (2). For the students: For improving the studentsrnreading comprehension and vocabulary mastery, the students should try to enrich theirrnvocabulary and grammar by reading. The students should pay more attention to the teacherrnexplanation and do more exercises.]]></note>
