 <note><![CDATA[ABSTRACTrnrnThis study is entitled  A STUDY ON THE ABILITY IN WRITING PROCEDURE TEXT BASED ON THE PICTURES OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP N 1 KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2012/2013. This study was held to find the answers of three questions. (1) Are the eigth grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang able to write procedure text based on the pictures? (2) What is the students’ level of ability in writing procedure text based on the pictures? (3) What are the area of difficulties faced by students in writing procedure text based on the pictures?. This study is focused on grammar, vocabulary and form. The method used in this study was descriptive method. The aim of the method is to explain a situation which is observed while this research done. The subject of this study was the eigth grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in school year 2012/2013. The total number of the eigth grade students is 235. By using purposive sampling the writer only chose class VIIIE consisting of 20 students to become the respondents of this study. The instrument used for this research was a test based on the pictures. The data were gathered and analyzed. The result of this study indicated that there was no student who got highest score 16-18 (excellent), 12 students who got score 10-12 (good) with percentage 60 % , 5 students who got score 5-7 (average) with percentage 25% and 3 students who got score 4-6 (below average) with percentage 15%. There was no student who got score 13-15 (very good) and 1-3 (bad). Based on the result of this study, the writer concluded that the eigth grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2012/2013 are able to write procedure text based on the pictures. Their level of ability is classified as “GOOD (9.95)”. Even the student ability level is average there were still many errors made by the students dealing with grammar, in using conjunction, vocabulary and form. Based on procedure text, word order form is good. Therefore the writer suggests  that the English teacher should motivate the student to enrich themselves by mastering  vocabulary in order to make a piece of writing easily, understand grammatical rules and read more English text in order to learn and understand how to form the sentences constructing the paragraph in procedure text.           rnrn]]></note>
