ABSTRACTrnThis study is entitled “A STUDY ON THE ABILITY IN USING PREPOSITION OF TIME OFrnTHE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPS ST. THERESIA 1 TUAPUKAN KUPANGrnTIMUR IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2012/2013”. This study was conducted in order to answer thernfollowing questions (1) Are the eighth grade students of SMPS ST. Theresia 1 Tuapukan KupangrnTimur able to use the preposition of time in sentences? (2) What are the levels of ability of therneigth grade students of SMPS ST. Theresia 1 Tuapukan Kupang Timur in using preposition ofrntime in sentences? (3) What might be the areas of difficulties encountered by the eighth gradernstudents of SMPS ST. Theresia 1 Tuapukan Kupang Timur in using the preposition of time inrnsentences? The objectives of this study are as follows:rn(1) To find out whether or not the second year students of SMPS ST.Theresia TuapukanrnKupang Timur are able to use the preposition of time.rn(2) To find out the students’ level of ability in using preposition of time.rn(3) To find out the areas of difficulties that might be encountered by the second year students ofrnSMPS ST. Theresia Tuapukan Kupang Timur in using preposition of time in sentences.rnThe method used in this study was the Descriptive Method. The purpose of this method was tornanalyze and describe the student’s ability in using preposition of time. There were twenty sixrnstudents chosen as the sample of this study. In collecting the data, the writer used a test in thernform of multiple choice test 45 items and essay test 15 items.rnThe result of the data analysis showed that the students of the researched school were able in usernpreposition of time. The ability level of students is good that is 1280 (81.85%). The analysis alsornshowed that the test of preposition of time especially in multiple choice test with 86.41% correctrnanswer out of 1170 test items, while compulsory test with 68.97% out of 390 test items.rnBased on the conclusion, the writer would like to propose the following suggestions, the Englishrnteacher should give students assignment and exercises to further increase their academicrnachievement in used of preposition of time. The students must study hard about preposition ofrntime to improve and too several their performance from good to be better and better.
